Ludhiana manufacturing unit roof collapse demise toll rises to 5

LUDHIANA: With the demise of a labourer on Wednesday, the toll within the roof collapse incident of an auto-parts manufacturing unit right here has climbed to 5.

The employee recognized as Santosh Kumar succumbed to accidents in a hospital, an official mentioned.

Whereas 5 have now died within the incident, eight others had been injured when the roof of an auto-parts manufacturing unit collapsed at Baba Mukand Singh Nagar in Ludhiana on Monday.

After the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had ordered a magisterial probe into the circumstances resulting in the roof collapse of the manufacturing unit and requested Divisional Commissioner of Patiala division to submit his report inside two weeks.

“The manufacturing unit proprietor was lifting the lintel stage with out permission of the municipal company,” Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma had earlier mentioned.

Groups of the Nationwide Catastrophe Response Power, State Catastrophe Response Power and civic physique undertook the rescue operations.

A case has been registered towards the manufacturing unit proprietor and the contractor, Ludhiana Police Commissioner Rakesh Aggarwal had earlier mentioned.

The CM had introduced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh every for the households of the deceased and free remedy for the injured.
